Methane Guiding Principles drives efforts in five priority areas to reduce methane emissions from natural gas. Our members develop and share practical tools and guidance to help others to learn from their experience and put those lessons into practice:

Continually Reduce Methane Emissions
We plan to systematically develop effective technologies and practices for monitoring and reducing methane emissions. We provide financial and operational support for the deployment of innovative technologies to reduce venting and fugitive methane emissions by improving combustion efficiency and implementing leak detection as well as repair programs.
Advance Strong Performance across the Gas Supply Chain
In order to get a comprehensive studies regarding methane emissions, we engage with upstream, midstream, and downstream participants across the natural gas supply chain. We work on robust methane emissions management, including sound estimation, detection and abatement practices and robust reporting through industry partnerships, trade associations and stakeholder engagement.
Improve Accuracy of Methane Emissions Data
We continuously improve methane emissions data collection methodologies to improve the accuracy of methane emissions data in operated assets while supporting research to improve the quantification accuracy of methane emissions.
Advocate Sound Policy and Regulations on MethaneEmissions
We advocate sound policies and regulations on methane emissions that encourage early action, enhance performance, enable enforcement, and foster innovation while collaborating with international bodies, governments, industry, and NGOs to develop and implement effective methane abatement regulations.
Increase Transparency
We contribute towards the standardization of external methane reporting and provide methane emissions data, methodologies used to derive the data, and progress as well as challenges in methane emissions management.
